National Treasures: History in the Making
Garry Knox Bennett

Take a journey through American history with this unique exhibition of sculptural objects and functional art created from "trees with a past," some dating to the birth of our nation. This collection of contemporary work, made of reclaimed woods, has roots that reach to some of the country’s most significant historic sites, including Mount Vernon, Monticello, Montpelier and many others. Several species planted by our founding fathers have witnessed the evolution of our nation and tell the stories of many generations – stories of creation, life and rebirth.

Co-curated with Jacques Vesery, and presented by William E. Jewell, president and founder of Historical Woods of America, this exhibition provides a powerful connection between our nation's past and its future. Pieces from several of today’s most prominent artists will be on hand including:

Water Drop Curtain:  An Expression of Vision and Poesis
waterdrop01.jpg

Inspiration and design by Munich-based designer Andreas Roessner, Valuz; presented in collaboration with Troy Durst, Team Durst, LLC.

The Water Drop Curtain creates the dramatic entryway from the Show to the spectacle of creativity that is DINING BY DESIGN.

Tangible vision means creation of a new perspective with words, images, objects, atmospheres and installations to illuminate a topic and create inspiration. Vision needs poesis. Plato said: “Whatever passes from not being into being is a poesis” – a cause of wonder. We combine diverse elements to achieve a new whole, a new level of fascination, a new perspective. The Water Drop Curtain reflects the understanding of poesis. Water is more than an object, it plays an important role as an essential element of humanity. Vision and poesis create a new relationship between human and object – material and immaterial.
